Election Result

So we have a winner and it is the 4th year or 3rd year or whatever year she is/was in.

the final result was turnout 321

Coleman 205 65%

O'Callaghan 113 35%

Spoilt 1

Lost 2!

so we got the turnout wrong by about 70 odd people, but the %'s for the
candidates roughly right.

Curiously, it appears the election folks were missing some votes, which while they would not have impacted the result is necessarily worrisome. And that turnout was pretty low.

Prediction for the Equality Officer position

We have two contestants

Niamh Coleman, 4th Insurance & European Studies

Shane O' Callaghan, 2nd European Studies


And we're plumping for the 4th year.

Yes, we've learned our lesson from the CSO debacle. 4th years have a built in advantage when it comes to these things and it is incredibly hard to overcome.

So time for hard facts -

Turnout will probably struggle to break 500, might even fall shy of 300 if it really poor. However, we're going for a final turnout of 394.

Coleman will get 237 which leaves O'Callaghan with 153 and there will be 4 spoiled votes.

Not another election already!

There will be an election for the post of equality officer on Thursday Oct 12th - all students can vote as long as they have an ID card but only in the canteen or the Health Sciences building between 9am and 7pm.

The candidates are:

Niamh Coleman, 4th Insurance & European Studies

and

Shane O' Callaghan, 2nd European Studies

Hustings will take place in the Stables courtyard on Wednesday at 1pm.

So, a nice little warming up for the match! I'll try and get a feeling for things and post my prediction.
